We are extremely excited to begin the 2017-2018 school year, and we are fully prepared for the amount of work that will need to be accomplished to assure another successful school year. Before we look ahead, we would like to take the opportunity to reflect on the great accomplishments of the 2016-2017 school year. The efforts of our wonderful staff, students, parents, community members and Board of Education resulted in the accomplishment of numerous goals that were able to advance our District instructionally, financially, and improve the overall culture of the District.

The C2 2018 Strategic Planning Committee completed their work in the establishment of an instructionally strong comprehensive plan, which supports differentiated instruction, opportunities for students to regularly solve problems by thinking critically, resulting in an increased level of rigor in all of our schools.

Our District-wide cabling project will establish an infrastructure capable of providing WiFi to thousands of instructional devices, such as Chromebooks, which students will utilize as part of our focus on preparing students to be digital natives in the 21st Century.

We successfully consolidated three of our elementary schools, closed the District Office, welcomed CiTi into Central Square Intermediate, as well as our Middle School with their County-wide Autism Program, and other specialized CiTi programs, each of which saved the District thousands of dollars and will continue to serve as a revenue source for the District. There were numerous other accomplishments that further saved the District and taxpayers money while allowing us to operate more efficiently and effectively. We were delighted to have one of the highest percentage voter approved budgets and capital project approvals that the District has ever had, which demonstrated the level of support and trust that the community has in their school district.

The 2017-2018 school year will focus on the capital project process, continuing to improve our instructional program as part of the C2 2018 Strategic Plan, and the consistent collaboration among all stakeholders to accomplish our mission to provide all students with the opportunity to excel as citizens in a changing world.

This school year will involve the creation of new partnerships and the strengthening of current ones, as we strive for continuous growth. One of these partnerships will be the expansion of our current District-wide Technology Committee to include parents, community members and students, as we clearly establish our vision to utilize technology to support high-quality instruction, for collaboration, creativity, and to provide all students with opportunities to utilize 21st Century resources to excel in our changing world.

We will continue our focus on transparency and consistent communication in all areas of our school program to keep staff, students, and community members actively engaged in their school district. Our new website will be launching this summer, which will be far easier to navigate, and will showcase examples of student learning and a variety of accomplishments. The number one priority in the Central Square School District has always been the safety of our students and staff members, and we will continue all our efforts in maintaining the high standard we hold for ourselves in fostering a learning environment that is welcoming, supportive and diversified to meet all student’s needs.

Best regards,
Thomas J. Colabufo
